Midori Ippai Project Activities 라이브 카지노Participation in "23rd Kokuba River Mizuashibi (Water Leisure) Activity" December 16, 2017 NTT West Okinawa Group
On December 16, 2017 (Saturday), an activity to conserve the waterfront areas and cleaning of areas around Manko was held by the "Kokuba River Mizuashibi Executive Committee."
As with the past year, NTT West Okinawa Group participated in this activity for the fourth time as part of its social action program.
Manko is designated by Japan as a Wildlife Protection Area after it became a Ramsar Convention registration wetland site in May 15, 1999. It is an important relay point for migratory birds including waterbirds such as sandpipers, plovers, ducks and black-faced spoonbills.
The treaty was adopted at an international conference that was held on February 2, 1971 in a city in Iran named Ramsar. Besides the habitat for waterbirds, the treaty also calls for a wide-scale conservation and restoration of wetlands as part of the ecosystem that supports human lives.
On the day of the event, a total of 114 participants, including employees, family members and retired employees of Okinawa Group, gathered at the Manko Waterbird and Wetland Center before they proceeded to pick up trash such as empty cans and plastic bottles around Manko.
The event was originally scheduled on November 18 (Saturday), but it was postponed due to rainy weather. Although there was concern that the turnout might not be too good on the new date, the number of people who turned up was larger than expected.
This activity also provides an opportunity for participants to get to know more about nature. Many of the participants who showed up with their family members had an unexpectedly good conversation with each other and worked up a good sweat as they engaged in the cleaning work while feeling the importance to maintain the environment of the waterfront areas.
The large amount of trash collected in about an hour of cleaning filled up almost three lightweight trucks, which caught many participants by surprise.
After the activity has ended, the participants enjoyed a meal of curry rice that was prepared in advance while they showed appreciation for each other's efforts. The event came to a close with a group photo-taking session.
NTT West Okinawa Group will continue to engage actively as a united entity in efforts that contribute to the local community through the "Midori Ippai Project."
