On September 10 (Saturday), NTT West Tokushima Group took part in the "7th Flower Planting Event" under the "Tokushima Downtown Flower Road Project" as part of the "NTT West Midori Ippai Project."The project was hosted by the NPO "Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai (Association to Preserve Shinmachi River)."
The event this time was organized by Tokushima City and Tokushima City Water and Greenery Promotion Council, and was held as part of the "Water and Greenery Festival 31st Anniversary Event," which was co-organized with NPO "Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai (Association to Preserve Shinmachi River)."
Despite falling on a non-working day, a total of more than 250 people, including 70 from Tokushima Group and participants from NPOs, local neighborhood associations, co-sponsors, university student volunteer groups and residents of Tokushima City, showed up on the day of the event.
The opening ceremony kicked off at Aibahama Park at 8:00 a.m. with greeting from Mr. Endo, Major of Tokushima City, who mentioned that the event was held as part of the "Water and Greenery Festival," a festival that has been held yearly in September with Tokushima City as the main organizer since 2015 as an activity to raise awareness toward the promotion of urban greening as well as enhancement of the river environ.
This was followed by a speech from Mr. 나카무라, Chairman of NPO 신마치 가와 wo 마모루 카이, who said that this activity to gather volunteers stemmed from the desire to offer a pleasant experience to tourists as well as residents of the city by transforming Tokushima City into a city of flowers through the planting activities. He also expressed the hope to involve as many residents as possible in this effort.
After the speeches, 멤버스 of Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru Kai explained the way to plant the 15,000 scarlet sage and marigold plants. At the end of the opening ceremony, the participants were divided into seven groups, and each group was assigned to the flowerbeds and planting zones at one of the designated locations for planting the flowers, which extended from the front of Tokushima Station to Awaodori Kaikan, and from the front of Awagin Hall to the City Government Office.
The 70 participants from Tokushima Group planted the scarlet sage and marigold into the 10 flowerbeds located on the Motomachi road divider. The planting activity for the day ended with a commemorative photo-taking session at Aibahama Park, the meeting point for the Midori Ippai Project participants.
Before calling it a day, participants who have engaged in the planting work since morning were treated to a heartwarming bowl of hot udon noodles at the Hyotan Island Cruise Terminal at Ryokokubashi that is operated by Shinmachi-gawa wo Mamoru.
